But one thing i love about her cooking is the effort she puts in. Now i am not getting all cliche on anybody now, but it is true, that when i see how much effort and willingness my grandma puts in, everything justs tastes better.
Its like how in tutorials, we discuss about how having meals with your family and friends, just makes the food a tad bit tastier and exciting.
Now food brings the family in weird ways as well, in my opinion.
For example, the picture below of homemade mirin friend chicken and rosti made by my grandpa.

Now he never ever cooks, he is the typical kind of male who lives up and believes in gender stereotypes. And in the past, lives very comfortably in the patriarchal society.
But life gets boring when you are old, and its never bad to pick up new skills. So my very technological-saavy grandpap decided one day that he is going to try out recipes that he finds on the internet. And from that day since, has been coming up with very interesting western/Japanese (basically, non chinese dishes) .
Are his dishes delicious? Not all the time
Do i eat them still? Yeah of course
When he asks, what do i say? Very nice Very nice!
Hhaha, its so funny really, because i am, actually eating something that i'd very much "diss" if it were to be served outside. But only because i know my grandpap would be very happy to see me eat it, i'd have some, very willingly. (:
And to me, if you were to let me choose a dinner at Shangri-la, or whatever up-class restaurants, i choose my grandparents cooking anytime. No qualms about this.
Now the next picture below are the typical dishes my grandmama prepares. As you can tell, very Singaporean chinese dishes and very rarely found outside! There were so many more dishes including the soup, i was too lazy to take and upload of them.
But you know, these are the kind of dinners that gathers the family together and actually properly facilitates some decent conversations, those you can only have with your family members.
I try not to miss these family dinners because i find them extremely precious. At the same time, extremely rewarding.
and take a look at this snoopy plate! I bet i ate of that plate when i was six years old or something! Such antique utensils! : D
And of course, look at this work of art! You know what it is already, i eat too much of it for my own good. Please please please please go buy one tub of this flavour and have some for yourself. I am starting to want someone to share this joy with me.
By the way, my friend, Clara, also writes in her food blog John n' Joy, that if you place wax paper over the half finished tub of ice cream, there would be no problem of ice frosting! I never knew! So interesting what insights science can give to a man eh? Especially through food.
