ASSIGNMENT 3

Create a visual story with 8 picture series.
Storyline with a twist at the end; using less than 10 words.

This assignment was challenging. Atypical of any NM2208 assignment. haha.
Let me present to you my final story titled :

The Cultural Revolution

When interpreting this story, please analyse from left to right, top row to bottom! (:
Let me now lead you through.

1) Introducing the protagonist: A couple (Couple A & Couple B)
2) Couple B starts preparing dinner of frying and baking for Couple A
3) Couple B is busy chopping up vegetables
4) Couple B is so hard at work, full of perspiration.
5) Meanwhile Couple A is busy relaxing at the living room, watching tv
6) Couple B shouts out to Couple A: " Dear, dinner is ready!!!"
7) The male serves up the dishes, revealing that he has been the cook all along. Female sits back to get served dinner
8) All hail the male chef!

I was contemplating very hard initially on how my story line could be given a good twist at the end. So i started off by thinking of what are the stereotypes in society. What are some social facts that people take as a given.

And then i thought of the stereotype of the female as the homemaker. This is also partly inspired by my sc2215 lecture where we learnt how female are expected to cook and become a domesticated "house maid".

My grandma never fails to nag at me about how i should be more domesticated, go out less, "or else no guy want you ah!"

Which is why the initial pictures has been strategically disguised as gender neutral as possible to lead the viewer into thinking that the female is preparing the meal!

I played around with many photoshop tutorials in this assignment, such as exposure, text editing, colour accent, custom shape tools (sweat, speech box), sharpening, colour tone adjustments, and the "painterly" glow effect.

Hope it fits the assignment requirement just right.

Grades aside, i had fun with this assignment really, afterall, i get to see weiwen in a Hello Kitty apron. hahahaha
